The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Charleston and coastal Colleton counties effective from 4 AM to 11 AM Sunday, according to the NWS Charleston office.

The warning includes an expectation of one to two feet of flooding above ground level along shorelines and tidal waterways, with high tide occurring around 7:34 AM Sunday. This flooding may make numerous roads impassable and could affect properties near the coast.

In addition, a High Surf Advisory is in effect until 5 PM Monday, with large breaking waves of 4 to 6 feet expected in the surf zone. A High Rip Current Risk remains through Sunday evening, posing dangerous swimming and surfing conditions.

The NWS advises residents and visitors to be cautious of localized beach erosion and warns that rip currents can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Saltwater flooding may occur one to two hours before and after the high tide period.
