The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch for Charleston and Coastal Colleton counties from late Saturday night through Sunday morning. This follows a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 10 PM Saturday and a High Surf Advisory until 5 PM Monday.

Residents can expect one to two feet of saltwater inundation above ground level along shorelines and tidal waterways, with water levels reaching 7.9 to 8.1 feet Mean Lower Low Water at Charleston. This flooding may make many roads impassable and could affect properties near the coast.

Dangerous rip currents are expected through Sunday evening, with waves breaking at 4 to 6 feet in the surf zone. The NWS cautions that rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers into deeper water, making swimming and surfing hazardous.

High tides are forecast around 7:13 PM Saturday and 7:34 AM Sunday, with saltwater flooding possible one to two hours before and after these times. Residents are advised to stay informed and avoid entering the water during these conditions.
