Charleston area to host drug disposal sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
South Carolina residents can safely dispose of unused medications at local sites Saturday to help prevent drug misuse.
The South Carolina Department of Public Health is encouraging residents to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 24, according to WCBD Count on 2. This event allows people to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications at designated drop-off locations.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration partners with local law enforcement agencies twice a year, in April and October, to organize these drug disposal events statewide, WCBD reported. The goal is to reduce the risk of prescription drug misuse by removing unwanted medications from homes.
The report did not specify exact Charleston area drop-off sites or detailed instructions on what types of medications are accepted. Residents are encouraged to seek out local locations to anonymously and safely turn in unused or expired prescription drugs.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a recurring event organized by the DEA and local law enforcement to help prevent prescription drug abuse and keep communities safer.
