The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Watch for Charleston and coastal Colleton counties starting late Sunday night and lasting through Monday morning, according to the NWS Charleston office.

The watch warns of one to two feet of saltwater flooding above ground level possible along shorelines and tidal waterways, with high tide expected around 8:18 AM Monday. This flooding may make many roads impassable and could affect properties near the coast.

In addition to flooding, a High Rip Current Risk remains through Monday evening, and a High Surf Advisory with waves of 4 to 6 feet is in effect until 5 PM Monday. These conditions create dangerous swimming and surfing hazards, with rip currents capable of pulling swimmers into deeper water.

Residents and visitors are advised to be cautious near the shore, avoid swimming in hazardous conditions, and be prepared for potential localized flooding especially around the times of high tide. Beach erosion is also likely near high tide periods.
