Charleston seeks public input on 2027 budget as College Lodge demolition continues
Charleston requests community feedback on its upcoming budget while College Lodge mural is removed amid demolition.
The city of Charleston is inviting residents to provide input on its 2027 budget, according to the Post and Courier. This outreach is part of the city’s efforts to engage the public in planning for the upcoming fiscal year.
Meanwhile, demolition work continues at College Lodge, a former dormitory on Calhoun Street in Charleston. The building’s famous mural, created by Shepard Fairey in 2014 for Piccolo Spoleto, was fully removed by October 21 as the College of Charleston advances its demolition project.
The College of Charleston intends to redevelop the site into a multipurpose facility dedicated to its school of hospitality and tourism management, signaling a new phase for the property.
These developments reflect ongoing changes in Charleston’s urban landscape and the city’s proactive approach to budgeting and community involvement.
