Decatur church hosts event to boost early voting ahead of midterms
A Decatur church is encouraging early voting as Georgia sees record turnout for the 2026 midterms.
A church in Decatur is hosting a 'Souls to the Polls' event to encourage early voting in Georgia ahead of the November 3, 2026 midterm elections, Atlanta News First reported. The event aims to contribute to the record surge in early voting seen statewide.
U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, who is running against Republican U.S. Representative Mike Collins for the Senate seat, is expected to speak at the event, highlighting the competitive nature of the race in Georgia.
Georgia has become a focal point in the midterms, with prominent political figures including former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris scheduled to campaign in the state. President Trump recently visited nearby Perry and announced a major Audi plant investment in Macon, which Governor Brian Kemp confirmed will create an estimated 4,500 jobs.
Early voting in Georgia has surpassed 1.2 million ballots, driven largely by voters in metro Atlanta counties such as Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, and Gwinnett. The highest turnout is among voters aged 50 to 70, with women and younger voters aged 18 to 24 also showing strong participation, according to the Georgia secretary of state.
The competitive races and high-profile visits underscore Georgia's importance in the 2026 midterms, with early voting continuing through the final days before Election Day.
