Tavares police responded around 2:20 a.m. Sunday to a report of a shooting near Caroline Street at the Caroline Court Apartments, WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando reported.

Officers found a 26-year-old Leesburg man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, according to WKMG.

Preliminary information from police indicates the man was standing outside a residence when two masked men arrived in a vehicle, exited, and shot him before fleeing the scene, WKMG stated.

The Tavares Police Department is actively investigating the incident and has asked anyone with information to contact their non-emergency line or CrimeLine, WKMG added.
