Wild at Heart gala raises funds for Virginia animal welfare and Chesterfield K-9 program
The sold-out Wild at Heart gala at the Science Museum of Virginia raised money for animal welfare and honored fallen Chesterfield police K-9 Knight.
The third annual Wild at Heart gala, held at the Science Museum of Virginia in Richmond, was a sold-out event that featured a cocktail hour, silent auction, food, and prizes for best animal costume, WTVR CBS 6 reported.
All proceeds from the event will support animal welfare efforts across Virginia, according to the William A. Harrison Jr. Foundation, which hosts the gala. The foundation's CEO, Bill Harrison, said nearly half a million dollars have been donated to smaller animal nonprofits statewide over three years.
A notable moment during the gala was a $5,000 gift presented to the Chesterfield County Police Department to support its K-9 training program. This donation was made in remembrance of K-9 Knight, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this year.
Harrison highlighted programs that help seniors on fixed incomes keep their pets, emphasizing the important role animals play as family members and companions. He also praised the strong community support that has helped the foundation grow rapidly, tripling the event's original size.
The event demonstrates the Richmond area's commitment to animal welfare and support for local law enforcement K-9 units, reflecting the community's love for animals and dedication to their care.
