Richmond Zombie Walk returns to Carytown, raises funds for suicide prevention
Hundreds participated in the annual Richmond Zombie Walk in Carytown, combining Halloween fun with suicide awareness fundraising.
The annual Richmond Zombie Walk took place Saturday in Carytown, filling the streets with hundreds of participants dressed as zombies and other Halloween characters, WTVR CBS 6 reported.
Walkers moved west along Cary Street, crossed at Nansemond Street, and returned on the opposite side, concluding at the Byrd Theatre. Costumes ranged from quietly creepy to startling, entertaining onlookers of all ages.
Organizers Rodger Barr, Anthony Menez, and Josh Bishop emphasized that the event’s primary goal is to celebrate the Halloween season with fun. However, as the event grew, they added a charitable component to raise money for suicide awareness and prevention.
Participants were encouraged, but not required, to contribute $5 each to support the cause. Organizers highlighted the importance of the topic and expressed their commitment to combining celebration with fundraising.
The event also included a costume contest with prizes awarded in categories such as Most Disgusting and Best Couple at a pre-walk meetup, adding to the festive atmosphere.
