A 15-year-old girl died after being hit by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in Las Vegas, according to NBC12.

The crash occurred around 3:08 p.m. on Racetrack Road as the girl was crossing in a marked crosswalk near Saguaro Park Trail, police said.

Vehicles in the adjacent lane had stopped or slowed, but a southbound 2012 Nissan Rogue passed them and entered the crosswalk without stopping, striking the girl, police reported.

The driver, a 64-year-old man, was charged with vehicular manslaughter, failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian, and overtaking a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk, according to authorities.

Police stated that impairment and speed were not factors in the crash, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
