Concord bowler honored for Bay Area record-setting series
Daniel Cashman was surprised with a ceremony in Concord for his record 889 bowling series.
A surprise ceremony was held at Clayton Valley Bowl in Concord to honor Daniel Cashman for setting a new San Francisco Bay Area record for a three-game bowling series. Cashman scored 889 out of a possible 900 on September 10, breaking the previous record set in Danville in 2017, CBS News Bay Area reported.
Cashman was unaware of the tribute when he arrived for a regular night of scratch league bowling. Friends, fellow bowlers, and family members, including his wife and two daughters, gathered to celebrate his achievement.
The Contra Costa County chapter of the United States Bowling Congress presented Cashman with a plaque recognizing his accomplishment. Eric Hattrup, a former professional bowler with 54 years of experience, helped organize the ceremony to ensure Cashman received proper recognition.
Cashman first learned to bowl at Clayton Valley Bowl as a child, took a 17-year break, and then returned to the sport. Fellow competitors praised both his bowling skill and his character, with Hattrup calling the record score "amazing" and unlikely to be surpassed within the association.
