Dan Cox calls for statewide ban on new Maryland mega data centers
Republican candidate Dan Cox urges halt to mega data center approvals citing environmental and community concerns.
Dan Cox, a Republican candidate for governor, held a press conference in Adamstown to demand a statewide ban on new mega data centers in Maryland, WBFF reported.
Cox and community members expressed concerns about the impact of these large data centers on farmland, air and water quality, noise, and traffic. They also highlighted health risks for children attending Carroll Manor Elementary School near ongoing construction involving diesel generators.
Cox criticized the fast-tracked permitting process for these facilities, which he said involved non-disclosure agreements and lacked transparency. He blamed decisions by Governor Wes Moore and Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater for enabling these developments.
He called for immediate statewide action including a halt to current and future data center approvals, a temporary moratorium on new projects, and a mandatory review of existing permits and environmental effects, citing reports of pollution and community harm ignored by officials.
