Democrat James Talarico appears on SNL after historic Texas Senate win

James Talarico, a Democrat who recently won a U.S. Senate seat in Texas, appeared on Saturday Night Live shortly after his victory, NBC News reported. His win was notable as it flipped a Republican stronghold seat to the Democrats for the first time in decades.

Talarico defeated Attorney General Ken Paxton, marking a significant upset in the state. This victory was part of a broader success for Texas Democrats, who also won every statewide office up for election, including the governor's race won by state Representative Gina Hinojosa.

The SNL cold open featured portrayals of New York representatives celebrating the Democratic wins, highlighting the party's gains in both the House and Senate. The sketch included references to the upcoming House speaker, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

The appearance underscored the political shift in Texas and the momentum for Democrats nationally, as well as the cultural recognition of these election results through popular media.
