Early voting starts in New York with key races for governor and House control
New Yorkers begin early voting with important contests for governor, attorney general, and U.S. House seats.
Early voting began Saturday in New York, where voters could influence which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives for the next two years, ABC News reported.
Republicans are working to defend suburban congressional seats north of New York City and in the Adirondack Mountains from Democratic challengers, according to ABC News.
Statewide, Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, who became governor in 2021 after Andrew Cuomo resigned, is seeking an additional term. She faces Republican Bruce Blakeman in the only scheduled gubernatorial debate ahead of the November election, ABC News said.
New Yorkers will also decide whether Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul should be elected to an additional term, ABC News reported.
Hochul, a moderate Democrat from the Buffalo area, was relatively unknown in the metropolitan area until Cuomo's resignation, when she succeeded him as governor, ABC News added.
