eBay announced a second round of layoffs this year, cutting about 9% of its global workforce, which affects more than 1,000 employees worldwide, Retail Dive reported.

The company stated the reduction is intended to align teams and resources with its top strategic priorities as it pursues significant opportunities ahead.

Earlier this year, eBay cut 800 jobs in February. The latest layoffs come after the company acquired the UK secondhand marketplace Depop for $1.4 billion, a deal that closed over the summer.

Financially, eBay remains strong, with second-quarter revenue increasing 15% to $3.1 billion and net income from continuing operations rising over 50% to $552 million, exceeding analyst expectations.

CEO Jamie Iannone highlighted focus areas such as collectibles, consumer-to-consumer sales, and preowned and refurbished items, which accounted for more than 70% of the marketplace's gross merchandise volume in Q2.
