The Edisto Island Open Land Trust is requesting $323,000 in rural Greenbelt funds to purchase 2.5 acres of land on Edisto Island, according to ABC News 4 WCIV.

This land, located off Highway 174, would expand the Maxcy Farm Nature Preserve greenbelt project by providing additional buffering and supporting habitat restoration efforts.

The funding request will be reviewed by the Greenbelt Advisory Board and, if approved, the money will come from the Greenbelt portion of County Transportation Sales Tax revenues.

The Open Land Trust plans to use the land for habitat restoration, environmental education, and public access in the area, officials said.

The total match for the purchase includes a $213,000 grant from the South Carolina Conservation Bank, $41,500 in landowner donation value, and $71,360 from the Trust's organizational funds toward purchase and closing costs.
