About 10% of Gen Z and Millennials are delaying having children due to concerns about affordability, according to research cited by WBTV from Northwestern Mutual.

Kate Michaels, a managing partner at Northwestern Mutual, explained that fertility treatments like IVF can be both emotionally and financially demanding for couples.

Michaels advised that couples consider financial planning early, even before knowing if fertility treatments will be needed, to prepare for potential costs such as medical exams and monitoring appointments.

She emphasized the importance of reviewing insurance coverage ahead of time to identify out-of-pocket expenses, including travel and additional procedures, so couples can budget accordingly.

Early conversations with financial advisors can provide peace of mind and reduce financial anxiety during what is often a stressful process, Michaels said.
