Fire damages Raleigh coffee shop and upstairs apartment on Durant Road
A fire at Village Coffeehouse on Durant Road caused smoke damage and forced closure, affecting a resident upstairs.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out Monday night at the Village Coffeehouse on Durant Road near Capital Boulevard in Raleigh, WRAL reported.
The fire was first noticed around 9 p.m., with smoke detected earlier in the day by a resident living above the coffee shop. The resident reported smelling something unusual but did not see flames initially.
After firefighters cleared the scene, the fire reignited later that night. The coffee shop owner alerted the upstairs resident, who saw smoke pouring from the front of the building.
Due to the fire damage, the coffee shop is closed until further notice, according to a message posted by the owner on Instagram. The resident above the shop said she cannot return to her apartment because of smoke damage to her belongings and the building.
Fire officials continue working to determine what caused the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
