Triangle voters turn out in large numbers for North Carolina midterm elections
Early voting in Wake and Durham counties has been strong, with key races and constitutional amendments on the ballot.
INDY Week reported that early voting turnout has been significant in Wake and Durham counties ahead of the 2026 North Carolina midterm elections. Despite many local races being effectively decided in the March primary, voters in the Triangle area remain engaged due to important statewide contests and ballot measures.
The elections include races for local school boards, Congress, the U.S. Senate, the state Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeals. Two Republican-held districts in Wake County are considered competitive and could influence the balance of power in the state House, according to INDY Week.
Voters will also decide on constitutional amendments related to voter ID requirements, capping future state income tax increases, and limiting local governments' property tax revenue. INDY Week is providing live coverage throughout Election Day, including visits to polling places and updates from watch parties.
Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and voters are reminded to bring identification and to vote on the constitutional amendments. INDY Week encourages readers to share updates from polling locations to help inform the community.
