Georgia woman arrested in North Charleston for impersonating police officer in phone scam
A Georgia woman was charged after a phone scam in North Charleston involved impersonating an officer and requesting bail money.
The North Charleston Police Department arrested a 35-year-old woman from Jonesboro, Georgia, in connection with a phone scam involving impersonation of a police officer, WCBD reported.
According to WCSC, the scam occurred in late November 2025 when a woman received a call at a pharmacy from someone claiming to be 'Sgt. Daniels' with the Charleston County Detention Center. The caller told the woman her son was jailed for marijuana possession and requested $850 in bail money.
The victim was instructed to send the money via Zelle to a supposed bail bondsman in Greenville. Later, she learned from her son that the call was fraudulent, and the payment was traced to a Georgia phone number linked to the suspect.
After an investigation, the suspect surrendered to officers at North Charleston City Hall on October 19, 2026. She was charged with breach of trust and impersonating a police officer, according to ABC News 4.
