Moncks Corner man charged with lottery ticket theft at local gas stations
A Berkeley County man faces charges for allegedly stealing and redeeming 35 lottery tickets from two Moncks Corner gas stations.
The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division charged a 23-year-old man from Moncks Corner with lottery fraud after he allegedly stole dozens of scratch-off lottery tickets from two gas stations in Berkeley County, Live 5 WCSC reported.
According to warrants, during the week of September 14, the man visited the 7-Eleven on North Goose Creek Boulevard twice and The Spinx on Highway 52 twice. He reportedly used a ruse to lure store attendants away from the counter to the restroom, during which he stole eight tickets from 7-Eleven and 27 from The Spinx.
The stolen tickets were scanned into the South Carolina Education Lottery Players Club app, and six of them were redeemed at various locations, resulting in a total profit of $165, according to Live 5 WCSC.
The man was arrested and booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center but was released the same day on a personal recognizance bond, Live 5 WCSC added.
