Google plans expanded digital wallet with receipts, refunds, and discounts
Google aims to enhance its digital wallet to include receipts, order tracking, refunds, and merchant promotions for a seamless retail experience.
Google envisions its digital wallet as more than just a payment tool or ID holder, according to Retail Dive. The company plans to make the wallet a repository for receipts, track online orders, arrange refunds, and transmit merchant discounts and marketing promotions.
Stavan Parikh, Google's vice president and general manager of payments, said these new capabilities will boost adoption and allow consumers to leave home without carrying a physical wallet, which is currently difficult because of missing items.
Google's goal is to make commerce journeys more seamless across both online and offline channels, as most commerce still happens offline and has not yet been enhanced by digital wallets or related technology.
Recent updates to Google's Android-based wallet include expanded autofill capacity for the Chrome browser and improved support for larger images and brand space. These changes are part of Google's effort to digitize retail and simplify transactions.
Parikh emphasized that delivering shopping bargains through the wallet is a key strategy to drive wallet use, as saving money remains a top priority for consumers.
