HCA begins $25M expansion of neuroscience center at Johnston-Willis Hospital
The project will triple the center's size and add advanced brain treatment technologies by summer 2027.
HCA has started construction on a $24.6 million expansion of the neuroscience center at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Chesterfield County, according to Richmond BizSense.
The expansion will nearly triple the center's size to 16,000 square feet and add two dedicated treatment rooms, along with a new MRI machine specifically for neuroscience patients.
Upgrades will include enhanced Gamma Knife stereotactic radiosurgery and MRI-guided ultrasound systems, allowing for less invasive treatments of brain tumors and other neurological conditions.
New laser ablation surgery capabilities will also be introduced, using heat to destroy abnormal cells without open-brain surgery.
Construction began in early October and is expected to be completed by summer 2027, with Gilbane as the general contractor and TMP and WSP handling architecture and engineering.
Dr. K. Singh Sahni, the center’s director, highlighted how advances in technology have made brain cancer more treatable, reflecting on the program’s growth since 1988.
