The Town of James Island plans to honor its first mayor, Joan Sooy, with a marker dedication ceremony on Sunday, November 1, according to WCBD Count on 2.
Joan Sooy served as James Island's first mayor from 1993 to 1997 and was instrumental in establishing the town as an independent municipality, WCBD reported.
The dedication will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, where the marker will recognize Sooy's contributions to the town and its traditions.
This event reflects James Island's appreciation for its local history and the leaders who shaped its community.
