A California judge has issued an order preventing the Trump administration from pressuring state and local election officials to separate ballots or exclude votes from alleged noncitizens, CBS News Los Angeles reported.

The order also prohibits the federal government from threatening election workers with criminal prosecution if they do not comply with these demands, according to the report.

The ruling ensures election officials can carry out their duties without fear of federal retaliation.

Election officials can now continue processing ballots without separating or excluding votes based on unverified citizenship claims, as the federal government is barred from enforcing such actions.
