A federal judge has denied the U.S. Department of Justice's unprecedented request to stop processing ballots in California, KPBS reported.

Despite the ruling, the Justice Department immediately filed a notice indicating it will appeal the decision, meaning the legal case is ongoing.

The judge's decision allows California election officials to continue processing ballots without interruption for now.
