National City mayoral candidates debate housing, homelessness and safety
Marcus Bush and José Rodríguez discussed key issues ahead of National City election on Nov. 3.
With less than a week before the November 3 election, National City mayoral candidates Marcus Bush and José Rodríguez participated in a debate focused on pressing regional concerns including the rise in homelessness and the city's response capacity, Times of San Diego reported.
The debate took place at the San Diego Rescue Mission, a nonprofit that supports homeless individuals dealing with addiction, mental health issues, or housing loss, and has become a vital part of the regional service network since expanding to National City.
Both candidates acknowledged similar challenges facing the city but differed in their approaches and leadership styles they would bring if elected to replace outgoing Mayor Ron Morrison.
Attendees included donors, volunteers, and residents who heard the candidates outline their goals and strategies for addressing housing, homelessness, and public safety in National City.
