Kellogg's UK Rice Krispies no longer contain rice grains due to weather
Kellogg's replaces rice grains with corn and rice flour in UK cereals amid supply issues from weather changes.
Kellogg's has announced that its Rice Krispies and Coco Pops cereals sold in the UK will no longer contain rice grains due to changing weather conditions disrupting rice supplies, BBC Business reported.
The company is substituting rice grains with corn flour and rice flour to maintain product quality amid dry weather affecting rice harvests in key Asian producing countries, leading to reduced yields and higher prices.
As a result of the recipe change, packaging will now carry a 'contains wheat gluten' warning, reflecting the inclusion of new ingredients.
Kellogg's North American business stated that Rice Krispies products in the US and Canada will continue to be made with real rice, with no expected changes to their recipes.
The company emphasized that the recipe adjustments were carefully assessed with customer feedback considered and that the cereals will continue to meet UK food standards for fat, salt, and sugar levels.
