Kissimmee mom arrested for leaving 4 kids home alone during Las Vegas trip
A Kissimmee mother faces child neglect charges after leaving her four children unsupervised for days while working in Las Vegas.
A Kissimmee mother was arrested at Orlando International Airport after deputies said she left her four children home alone for five days during a work trip to Las Vegas, according to WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando and FOX 35 Orlando.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a juvenile reporting that her 9-year-old brother was injured when a dumbbell fell on his head at their home on Parkway Boulevard. Deputies found four children aged 9, 11, 12, and 14 without adult supervision. The injured child was taken to a hospital and later released, WKMG reported.
The mother, identified as Irene Miller, told deputies she had left for Las Vegas on October 18 and planned to return on October 23 or 24, but left the children alone for nearly a week. She said a babysitter came from Tampa each morning to prepare the children for school and check on them in the afternoon but did not stay overnight, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
The children’s father was contacted and took the children to his residence. When Miller’s plane landed at Orlando International Airport, Osceola County deputies were waiting and arrested her on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She was booked into the Orange County Jail, WKMG and FOX 35 reported.
Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect and will investigate and bring charges against parents who do not properly supervise or care for their children, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
