A man was arrested Wednesday night following a traffic stop in Volusia County, according to FOX 35 Orlando. Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on South Atlantic Avenue in New Smyrna Beach and found the man inside a vehicle.

The man refused to exit and drove away, then abandoned his vehicle and hid near the Canaveral National Seashore boat ramp. Deputies used a K-9 unit and drones to locate him hiding in palm fronds just before 9 p.m., FOX 35 Orlando reported.

During the arrest, the man fought with the K-9 and threatened to shoot deputies, though no weapon was found, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. He faces charges including aggravated assault, battery on a K-9, fleeing, and resisting arrest, as well as an outstanding domestic violence warrant.

The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being transported to jail, FOX 35 Orlando said.
