UCF fined $100K by Big 12 for discriminatory chants at football game
The Big 12 Conference fined UCF $100,000 after discriminatory chants occurred during a game against BYU.
The University of Central Florida was fined $100,000 by the Big 12 Conference following discriminatory chants by students during a football game against Brigham Young University, WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando reported.
The chants, which included offensive language directed at BYU, occurred during the game held at UCF. The Big 12 acknowledged UCF's pregame protocols and immediate actions during the game, such as removing some fans responsible for the conduct, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
Despite these efforts, the conference emphasized that discriminatory behavior is unacceptable and has no place in the Big 12. As a result, the Big 12 is implementing stricter rules and fines related to discriminatory conduct at athletic events, effective immediately.
The conference stated its commitment to maintaining a respectful environment for student-athletes, coaches, and fans, and pledged to work with member institutions to prevent such behavior and ensure consequences when incidents occur.
UCF officials said they are reviewing their options following the conference's decision, as reported by WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.
