Georgia surpasses 2 million early voters with federal observers in six counties
Early voting in Georgia has reached 28% turnout, with federal monitors deployed in key counties including Cherokee and Fulton.
Early voting in Georgia has seen over 2 million ballots cast, representing a 28% turnout rate, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. Cherokee County alone reports about 5,000 residents voting daily during early voting operations.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger toured the Cherokee County election headquarters to review local voting procedures. Officials reported only one minor incident during early voting, involving a voter upset about mobile device restrictions in voting booths.
The U.S. Department of Justice is deploying 1,000 federal election observers nationwide, stationing monitors in six Georgia counties: Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Bibb, and Chatham. Raffensperger described the federal presence as routine, noting observers will blend in as everyday citizens and that bipartisan and independent watchdog groups are also present.
Georgia remains under national scrutiny following former President Donald Trump's claims of election rigging in 2020. Trump has stated he will accept midterm outcomes if he believes they are fair. Election officials emphasize their focus on ensuring free and fair elections.
