A 27-year-old man in Weston faces video voyeurism charges after deputies say he recorded a girl preparing to shower.
A 27-year-old man in Weston has been charged with video voyeurism and other offenses after allegedly recording an 11-year-old girl through her bathroom window, CBS News Miami reported.
According to WSVN 7News, deputies responded to the home Sunday night after the girl saw a cellphone pointed into her bathroom while she was preparing to shower. Surveillance footage showed a man dressed in black approaching the victim's home with a cellphone, then running away and returning to a nearby residence.
Investigators identified the man as 27-year-old Joel Luis Rivera, who lived in the same neighborhood, after reviewing surveillance footage and tracing a pickup truck seen in the recordings. Rivera's cellphone matched the description provided by the victim.
Rivera admitted to deputies that he was the person seen riding a bicycle in the footage and said he entered the victim’s backyard to 'go by the lake,' according to the arrest report.
Authorities described the act as a serious violation of the family's privacy and said detectives take such cases very seriously. Rivera was arrested Monday and appeared in court Wednesday.
