Man arrested in connection with Brooklyn jogger's stabbing death
NYPD arrested a man charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing of Katie Suarez while jogging in Brooklyn.
The New York Police Department arrested a man on Saturday in connection with the killing of Katie Suarez, who was stabbed while jogging in Brooklyn last week, ABC News reported.
The suspect, identified as a 27-year-old teachers aide, was charged with second-degree murder after detectives developed evidence placing him at the scene of the attack, according to police statements shared by ABC News.
Katie Suarez, 28, was stabbed in the neck on October 30 while jogging along the Belt Parkway waterfront in Brooklyn. She died three days later from her injuries, the NYPD said.
Suarez had called her father around 8 p.m. the night of the attack to say she was about half a mile from home. When she did not return, her parents searched for her and her father found her stabbed, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny, as reported by ABC News.
The suspect currently works as a teachers aide at a Brooklyn public elementary school near the crime scene. He had previously worked briefly for the NYPD but was removed for psychological reasons and was also discharged from the Marines for mental health issues, according to sources cited by ABC News.
Authorities have not yet revealed a motive, and no attorney information for the suspect was available at the time of reporting.
