Meta launches AI pet app Waddle World in the Philippines
Meta introduced Waddle World, an AI-powered virtual pet app combining journaling and mini-games, currently available in the Philippines.
Meta has launched a new app called Waddle World, described as a Tamagotchi-style virtual pet experience enhanced with AI, according to TechCrunch. The app is currently available on iOS and Android in the Philippines and allows users to hatch, feed, and play with a pixel pet in a 16-bit world.
The Verge reports that Waddle World is designed as a daily journal disguised as a pet, encouraging users to talk with their pets rather than type. The app includes cozy mini-games like stacking groceries and word games, and pets create doodles to illustrate conversations.
Meta's description emphasizes that the app is not a chatbot, assistant, or productivity tool, but a low-pressure, warm escape without streaks or scores. It is flagged for users over 18 and aims to avoid habit-forming design.
Additionally, Waddle World doubles as a journal where users can describe their day by voice or text, with the pet writing entries in its own voice accompanied by doodles. The app can also send weekly emails summarizing what it has learned about the user.
Meta has not confirmed plans for wider availability beyond the Philippines. The company has also quietly launched other AI apps, including an AI fashion app called Style Sketch in select Southeast Asian markets, as noted by The Verge.
The launch of Waddle World reflects Meta's ongoing experiments with AI companions and interactive apps that blend entertainment with personal journaling.
