Miami Heat updates Dwyane Wade statue after criticism of original
The Miami Heat unveiled a revamped statue of Dwyane Wade that better resembles the NBA champion after two years of criticism.
The Miami Heat have unveiled a revamped statue of Dwyane Wade, addressing widespread criticism that the original did not resemble the three-time NBA champion, CBS News Miami reported.
The original statue, unveiled on October 27, 2024, was widely mocked for its appearance. According to Yahoo Sports, the team reached out to the original artists, Omri Amrany and Oscar Leon, over a year ago to update the statue.
The artists created a new head and neck piece in Chicago, which was installed over two days onto the existing 18-foot statue at the Kaseya Center. The updated portion was designed to match the weathering of the statue's torso.
Dwyane Wade, the Heat's all-time leading scorer, initially pushed back against the criticism but later embraced the update. The new statue better captures Wade's iconic 'This is my house!' pose from 2009 after a winning shot against the Chicago Bulls.
