Salesforce acquires defense tech startup Rune for $375M to boost AI logistics
Salesforce expands its Missionforce defense platform with AI logistics startup Rune to support battlefield operations.
Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a startup specializing in AI software for military logistics, for $375 million in cash and stock, Resilience Media reported.
Rune builds AI tools that help the U.S. military predict supply needs and manage logistics directly from the field, enhancing real-time operational capabilities.
This acquisition is part of Salesforce's broader push into defense technology through its Missionforce business unit, which serves national security and defense agencies and has grown 80% year over year since its launch last year, according to a company blog post.
Missionforce recently secured a 10-year, $5.6 billion contract with the U.S. Army, and integrating Rune’s frontline logistics data will allow the platform to extend beyond administrative planning to support battlefield operations.
Founded in 2024, Rune had raised $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT, a CIA-backed nonprofit venture firm, and was valued at $127 million during its last funding round.
Salesforce has been active in acquisitions this year, also agreeing to buy AI agent platform Fin for $3.6 billion and acquiring Qualified for $1.2 billion, highlighting its strategy to expand in AI and defense sectors.
