Anthropic, an AI lab, is anticipated to receive a high 'junk' credit rating from credit agencies following its initial public offering, according to a Financial Times report cited by TechCrunch.

Blackstone, the lead investor in a recent $63 billion financing deal for Anthropic's chip development, initially forecasted an investment-grade rating for the company before 2027. However, it now expects a double B range rating, which is the highest tier of speculative junk grade.

TechCrunch noted that a high junk rating would likely make it more difficult and expensive for Anthropic to secure additional funding needed to support its significant spending, which has been a concern for investors.

Anthropic has been investing heavily in compute power over the past year, fueling its business growth but raising investor worries about sustainability.

Both Anthropic and Blackstone declined to comment on the report when contacted by TechCrunch.

Anthropic officially filed for its IPO earlier this week, prompting speculation about the potential impact of the offering on the broader AI industry.
