NC State fraternity house searched in criminal hazing investigation
Sigma Nu fraternity at NC State is under interim suspension as police execute a search warrant amid hazing allegations.
The Sigma Nu fraternity at North Carolina State University is under interim suspension while the university investigates hazing allegations, ABC11 WTVD reported. The investigation is being conducted under the university's internal student code of conduct.
On Friday, law enforcement officers including NC State police and SBI agents executed a search warrant at the Sigma Nu fraternity house as part of a criminal investigation, WRAL reported. Unmarked vehicles blocked the road in front of the fraternity house during the search.
Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman indicated that criminal charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues, but she declined to comment further on the case or police activity, ABC11 WTVD and WRAL reported.
The university emphasized that it does not tolerate hazing and prioritizes student safety and well-being. The investigation has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of hazing in Greek organizations, with experts noting its prevalence, WRAL reported.
A message reading "Relax Pal" was briefly displayed on a sheet outside the fraternity house during the interim suspension, though its connection to the investigation remains unclear, ABC11 WTVD reported.
