Franklin Street businesses in Chapel Hill are gearing up for a busy Saturday as Halloween and a game day coincide, bringing large crowds to the area, ABC11 WTVD reported.

Sutton's Drug Store, a longtime Franklin Street establishment, sees the weekend as a reminder of the street's festive past, with employees noting that college students are helping revive some of the old traditions during major events.

Despite changes over the years, the area maintains a lively atmosphere during celebrations, with businesses staying open later to accommodate visitors, according to Joe Vizzari of Sutton's Drug Store.

Students noted that Halloween draws more people out than typical weekend nights, making it distinct from other game days or Friday and Saturday evenings, WTVD reported.

Law enforcement officials are focusing on crowd control and pedestrian safety due to expected heavy foot and vehicle traffic, with additional police and fire personnel deployed to manage the situation, said Olivia Vorhis, a public safety official.

The combined effect of Halloween festivities and game day activities is anticipated to increase congestion and pedestrian flow, prompting proactive measures to ensure public safety on Franklin Street.
