WRAL reported that a utility company accidentally drilled into a raw water line supplying the Pittsboro Water Filtration Facility on Friday, causing damage that forced the facility to shut down temporarily.

TriRiver Water, the local water provider, said the damage required immediate repairs, which were completed by 9:15 p.m. the same day.

During the outage, treated water stored in tanks and distribution lines was available but expected to last only a few hours depending on usage.

Residents were asked to conserve water by limiting use to essential needs and postponing activities such as laundry, dishwashing, and irrigation to help preserve the available supply while repairs were underway.
