DOJ warns of fake election monitors at South Florida voting sites
Justice Department alerts South Florida voters about impersonators at early voting locations; no incidents reported locally yet.
The U.S. Justice Department has issued a warning about individuals impersonating federal election monitors at early voting sites in South Florida, according to CBS News Miami and WPLG Local 10. These impersonators falsely claim affiliation with the DOJ but are not authorized representatives.
Local election officials in Miami-Dade and Broward counties have confirmed that no such incidents have been reported at their early voting sites so far. Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia and Broward Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott both affirmed the absence of reports involving impersonators or suspicious activity.
The DOJ clarified that legitimate federal monitors will only observe polling locations on Election Day, November 3, and will remain outside the polling place's buffer zone. They will carry identification available upon request but typically will not be noticeable to voters, as noted by Broward's supervisor.
Election officials have been advised to inform local offices and alert federal authorities if any reports of impersonation arise. Meanwhile, polling sites across South Florida continue final preparations for Election Day as millions nationwide have already voted early.
