Florida teen arrested after typing threat about president on school laptop
A 15-year-old Mainland High School student was arrested for typing a threat about the president on a school-issued computer.
A 15-year-old student at Mainland High School in Florida was arrested after typing the phrase 'how to kill the president' followed by 'im just kidding' on her school-issued laptop, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department and WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.
The incident occurred on the same day President Donald Trump was scheduled to hold a rally in Daytona Beach. The school's security system, Gaggle Alert, which monitors for threats on school devices, flagged the message and alerted school officials and law enforcement.
When the school resource officer attempted to detain the student, she resisted by trying to leave the office and physically struggling, including kicking and swinging her arms. The officer was able to restrain her with assistance from a school guardian.
The student's guardian confirmed she did not have access to weapons at home. The student now faces charges including threatening to kill or harm another person, obstructing police, and resisting an officer without violence.
The arrest report listed President Donald Trump as the victim. This incident follows another arrest of a Florida woman who allegedly threatened the president on social media, which was also investigated by law enforcement.
