Two arrested after infant left alone in hot car in Titusville for 20 minutes
An infant was found alone in a hot, unlocked car outside a Titusville Petco; two caretakers face child neglect charges.
Titusville police arrested two people after an infant was found alone in a car outside a Petco store, FOX 35 Orlando and WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando reported. The baby was left in the unlocked vehicle for about 20 minutes while the caretakers shopped inside the store, according to surveillance footage.
Police received reports that the infant was alone in the car, covered with a blanket, red-faced, and sweating heavily, WKMG News 6 said. Paramedics checked the child and determined she was not seriously harmed. The Florida Department of Children and Families later released the infant to a parent.
The arrested caretakers, Zoey Connor and Ethan Humes, told police the shopping trip was expected to last 5 to 10 minutes, but surveillance showed they were inside for 20 minutes, FOX 35 Orlando reported. Police believe the baby had been left alone for more than 20 minutes.
Humes and Connor face child neglect charges, and Humes also faces a charge of leaving a child unattended in a vehicle, WKMG News 6 stated. It appears they were babysitting the infant and had another child with them at the time, according to FOX 35 Orlando.
The incident occurred at the Petco on Columbia Boulevard near Windover Trail in Titusville, FOX 35 Orlando reported. Police moved the infant to an air-conditioned patrol vehicle after removing her from the car.
