2-alarm fire breaks out inside building on West Broad Street in Richmond

A two-alarm fire broke out Friday night inside a five-story mixed-use building on West Broad Street near North Adams Street in Richmond, NBC12 reported.

The building houses commercial spaces on the ground floor and residential units above. Richmond Fire Department crews arrived to find smoke coming from the basement and commercial areas, which are believed to be where the fire started.

One person was rescued from the building, and no injuries have been reported so far, according to Richmond Fire Department spokespersons.

The fire has not yet been declared under control, but there is no visible fire at this time. Firefighters continue to check for any extension of the fire.

A portion of West Broad Street remains closed as emergency crews work to fully extinguish the fire and ensure safety in the area.
