Lake County Schools announced that the education records of approximately 1,800 students were mistakenly shared with someone who was not authorized to receive them, according to FOX 35 Orlando and WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.

The district said it took immediate action upon discovering the error, including requesting the permanent deletion of the records and ensuring they were not further shared. Legal measures are also being pursued to protect the confidentiality of the information.

Parents and guardians of the affected students will be notified by the district. However, the district has not disclosed details about the type of records involved, how the mistake happened, or who received the information.

Lake County Schools emphasized their commitment to student privacy and stated they are reviewing internal procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
