Man arrested for dragging Clayton County officer during traffic stop
Christopher Lovett was taken into custody after dragging an officer during a traffic stop in Riverdale on Oct. 21.
Authorities announced the arrest of 59-year-old Christopher Harold Lovett, who was wanted for dragging a Clayton County police officer during a traffic stop last week, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on October 21 near the intersection of Garden Walk Boulevard and Medical Center Drive in Riverdale, adjacent to Charles R. Drew High School. During the stop, Lovett accelerated and dragged the officer with his vehicle.
Emergency medical crews transported the officer to a hospital with non-life-threatening head and body injuries. The officer was discharged shortly after and has been recovering at home, as reported by Atlanta News First.
Authorities located and impounded Lovett's vehicle soon after the incident, but he fled the area, prompting a multi-agency search involving the U.S. Marshals Service, South Fulton Police Department, and Clayton County Sheriff's Office. Lovett was eventually captured, though the exact location of his arrest has not been disclosed.
Clayton County Public Schools noted that while emergency vehicles temporarily shut down roadways near Drew High School during the incident, the campus was not placed on lockdown and no students or staff were involved. Legal proceedings against Lovett are underway.
