Hackers linked to North Korea are suspected of stealing at least $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, according to TechCrunch.

The breach occurred after attackers compromised a Binance engineer's laptop, which allowed access to a service container and unauthorized withdrawal transactions, Binance said in a post on X.

Binance reported no evidence of leaked private keys, which would give hackers extensive control over crypto assets, and stated that user funds are safe though it has not yet provided proof.

The exchange has suspended all deposits and withdrawals while investigating the incident and plans to publish an updated proof of reserves once remediation is complete.

A Binance spokesperson told TechCrunch that about $3 billion of the stolen funds have been frozen by industry partners, and the company is collaborating with law enforcement and blockchain intelligence firms to trace and recover assets.
