Woman killed in Miami-Dade murder-suicide at apartment complex

CBS News Miami reported that a woman was killed in a murder-suicide at a 55-and-over apartment complex near Northeast 14th Avenue and 170th Street in Miami-Dade County on Wednesday evening.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, the woman had gone to the apartment to retrieve her belongings when her ex-partner shot her and then himself shortly after 7 p.m.

The victim's cousin, Maria Espinosa, told CBS News Miami she pleaded with the gunman to let her, her cousin, and their aunt leave before the shooting occurred. She witnessed her cousin, Denise Polo Fuentes, being shot in the heart.

Espinosa said the man, identified as Frank Paba, was not acting like himself and had threatened that "everyone here is gonna die tonight." Paba's sister confirmed the couple had been separated for about two months.

A neighbor described the area as typically quiet and said Polo Fuentes had told her she was done with Paba. It is unclear if there had been prior domestic incidents between the two, and authorities have not yet provided further details.
