The University of Miami Hurricanes, ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for the first time since the 2002 season, defeated the University of Pittsburgh Panthers 52-23 on Saturday in Miami Gardens, according to WSVN 7News.

Wide receiver Malachi Toney set a school record with 16 catches, totaling 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Dariah Mensah threw for 387 yards and four touchdowns, completing 31 of 37 passes. Running back Javian Mallory added two rushing touchdowns, while Mark Fletcher Jr. scored his 33rd rushing touchdown, moving to second on Miami's all-time list.

Miami converted 10 of its first 12 third-down attempts and scored seven times in their first eight possessions, including six touchdowns and a field goal. The Hurricanes improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, maintaining their top ranking.

The game was part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Miami's 2001 national championship team, with many members of that team in attendance. Miami wore throwback jerseys resembling those from the championship season and performed strongly throughout the game.

Pittsburgh, now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play, dropped its third consecutive game. Miami native Blue Hicks caught five passes for 149 yards and a touchdown for Pitt. Pitt’s quarterback Holden Geriner completed 18 of 32 passes for 268 yards and one touchdown.

This victory marked Miami's 43rd win as the No. 1 team and extended Pitt's record against No. 1 teams to 0-14-1. Miami is expected to remain atop the AP Top 25 poll when it updates Sunday.
